uilt for artists and run by artists, "The Cygnet" gallery has grown in popularity since
it's birth in 2009. Home to more than thirty artists (and a very special felter!) "The Cygnet"
is very much part of the Dorset arts and crafts scene. With a multitude of different arts
and crafts, there is something for everyone - "the creative heart of Shaftesbury"!
From ceramics to calligraphy, herbal skincare to fine art, wood work, silversmithing,
jewellery, glass art, sculpture, photography and a host of other crafty delights, whether
you're shopping for a certain special something or an artist seeking inspiration. there truly
is something for everyone in "Cygnet". And Swans Yard, the perfect place in which to sit
and contemplate life....and eat a slice of cake!

"Cygnet" is just one of a number of projects initiated by 'Swans Trust'. In 1999, the Trust teamed up with Signpost Housing to transform the site of a former electric substation/depot yard, into Swan's Yard (where a ye olde coaching inn called 'Swan's Yard' once stood!) This investment created thirteen affordable homes for the people of Shaftesbury and a number of retail units. Ten years later, on 29th August, 2009, "Cygnet" was hatched!

Swans Yard has developed in size, stature and status. With a number of small and vibrant businesses under its wing, the Yard also attracts a large community of artists and musicians with its Open Days. By taking part in and supporting local events (Shaftesbury's Food & Drink Festival, Gold Hill Fair, Dorset Art Weeks, Christmas Late Night Shopping), Swans Yard is very much part of Shaftesbury life.
